Wisdom Teeth Removal
Your wisdom teeth are the last to come up, usually erupting when you’re in your teenage years or early twenties. Since there may not be ample space for your wisdom teeth, they can cause issues like crowding, pain or impaction. Your third molars can be removed during a comfortable procedure at Stones Corner Dental.
We’ll monitor your wisdom teeth at your regular checkups with us to see how they’re developing. With x-rays, we can see their exact position and determine if they need to be removed. If so, the x-rays will serve as our guide to complete your procedure quickly and efficiently.
Why Wisdom Teeth May Need to Be Removed
There are many reasons that people have to have their wisdom teeth extracted, such as:
- Impacted teeth
- Crowding and misalignment
- Partially erupted teeth
- The development of gum disease or cavities
- Pain and swelling
- Lack of space
As your wisdom teeth try to erupt, they can press into the neighbouring teeth. This action creates trauma in the rest of your teeth. The symptoms that you experience may not go away or will worsen until you have the wisdom teeth removed.
What to Expect During a Wisdom Teeth Extraction
Once we have determined that your wisdom teeth should come out, we’ll administer anaesthesia so that you don’t have to feel anything that we’re doing. Using your x-rays, we’ll determine how best to remove the teeth, then proceed when you feel ready. If you feel that you need more than traditional anaesthesia, we can give you laughing gas as well. We can also arrange for an anaesthetist to come in for a deeper form of sedation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Typically, your wisdom teeth will begin developing before your teen years. It’s only in the teenage years to early twenties that they begin to erupt. Your wisdom teeth are usually completely developed by the time you reach age 30.
Is it possible that I won’t need to have my wisdom teeth removed?
Yes. If we feel that your wisdom teeth aren’t causing you any problems, we won’t recommend that you have them taken out.
What do I need to do after my procedure to recover quickly?
We will provide you with full aftercare instructions and go over them with you so that you know exactly what to do.
