Root Canal Treatment
You want to keep your natural teeth for as long as possible. If you feel concerned about the possibility of having an extraction, you might have another option. A root canal treatment can clean out the infection from a tooth while retaining the tooth. No extraction will be necessary, and the procedure is completely comfortable. The team at Stones Corner Dental can perform root canal treatment in-house, including more complex cases such as on the upper molars.
What Is Endodontic Therapy?
Root canal treatments are also known as endodontic therapy. This restorative measure preserves a tooth that has been affected by an infection deep in the tooth. It may be useful in situations such as:
- A large cavity that enters the nerve of your tooth
- A painful or hypersensitive tooth
- An abscess
- A cracked tooth
- A traumatic injury
- A knocked-out tooth that is reinserted
What to Expect During a Root Canal
If you think that you may require a root canal, it’s essential that you contact our practice straightaway. We’ll get you in for an evaluation. Otherwise, we may identify your need for a root canal treatment at your regular checkups. If so, we’ll take X-rays to gain a deeper look at your tooth. These diagnostics will allow us to understand what must be done during your procedure.
An opening is created in your tooth so that we can clean out the infection. The root canal of the tooth is sealed off. When the procedure is completed, we will give you a temporary dental crown to wear until your custom-created dental crown is made at our laboratory. This crown ensures that your weakened tooth will be strong and fully functional for you.
Ensuring Your Comfort
When you think of the phrase “root canal,” you might assume that there is discomfort involved. We seek to alleviate any pain you’re in from your tooth-related issues. You’ll be numbed with local anaesthetic before embarking on your root canal treatment. We’ll begin only when you feel ready to move forward. We can also give you nitrous oxide, or happy gas, during your appointment.
In certain cases, it may be most appropriate to have an anaesthetist come in and provide a deeper form of sedation. If so, we can arrange to have this done before your root canal treatment in Stones Corner.
